A Wedding Welcome Party at The Preserve at Chocorua | Tamworth, NH

When people think about wedding photography, they usually picture the ceremony, the first dance, or sunset portraits. But one of my favorite parts of a wedding weekend is the celebration that happens before the wedding day even begins.

Welcome parties have become increasingly popular, and after photographing this beautiful evening at The Preserve at Chocorua in Tamworth, New Hampshire, it’s easy to see why. They give couples the chance to spend meaningful time with their guests before the whirlwind of the wedding day, creating memories that are just as special—and often a little more relaxed.

A Beautiful Setting in the White Mountains

Tucked away in the scenic White Mountains of New Hampshire, The Preserve at Chocorua offers the perfect backdrop for a wedding weekend. Surrounded by towering trees and peaceful mountain views, the property creates a welcoming atmosphere where guests can truly slow down and enjoy being together.

One of the things I loved most about this venue was how naturally it encouraged connection. Instead of everyone staying in one place, guests wandered the property with drinks in hand, caught up with family they hadn’t seen in years, and enjoyed the beautiful summer evening. As a photographer, those unscripted moments are always my favorite to capture.

The relaxed pace made the evening feel less like a formal event and more like a gathering of the people who matter most.

Incredible Food & Thoughtful Details

No celebration is complete without amazing food, and this welcome party definitely delivered.

Guests were greeted with a beautifully styled charcuterie display that quickly became a favorite gathering spot. Dinner featured perfectly prepared steak with rice, while creative hors d’oeuvres were passed throughout the evening—including fried chicken served in miniature waffle cones, which was every bit as delicious as it sounds.

An open bar kept the celebration going, giving guests plenty of opportunities to mingle, laugh, and toast to the weekend ahead.

Every detail felt intentional, creating an atmosphere that was elegant without feeling overly formal.

Honoring Meaningful Traditions

One of my favorite parts of the evening was seeing the couple incorporate meaningful Jewish traditions into their celebration.

These moments added so much heart to the evening and served as a reminder that every wedding weekend is unique. Watching family and friends come together to celebrate traditions that have been passed down through generations is always an honor to witness, and documenting those moments is one of the reasons I love photographing weddings.

Ending the Evening Around the Fire

As the sun disappeared behind the trees, the celebration naturally shifted toward three cozy fire pits scattered throughout the property.

Guests gathered together to roast marshmallows, make s’mores, and enjoy one last chance to relax before the excitement of the wedding day.

Some of my favorite photographs from the evening came during this time. There was no schedule to follow or events to rush to—just genuine conversations, laughter, and the kind of quiet moments that often become the memories couples cherish most.

It’s a reminder that not every unforgettable wedding moment happens on the dance floor.

Why I Love Photographing Welcome Parties

A welcome party tells a different part of a couple’s story.

It’s where college friends meet childhood friends for the first time. It’s grandparents hugging relatives they haven’t seen in years. It’s family members arriving from across the country, sharing drinks, and settling into the excitement of the weekend.

By the time the wedding day arrives, many of those introductions have already happened, allowing everyone to feel more connected and present.

Photographing these gatherings helps tell the complete story of a wedding weekend—not just the ceremony itself.
